Description

Two letters addressed to Read and one to Margaret Read from Shewring. Shewring thanks Read for sending books, discusses 'The Contrary Experience' and links this to his own work on a series of Stanley Spencer letters written during the First World War. The letter includes a partial translation of St John Chrysostom, and a review of work by Shewring in The Tablet. Shewring later thanks Read for discussing the Spencer letters with Allen Lane. The final letter, addressed to Margaret Read invites the Reads to dinner. The file also includes a copy of a letter from Read to Allen Lane concerning the Spencer letters.
