Description
This file contains 2 letters to Herbert Read from Robert Richman and 1 carbon copy of a letter from Read.
Read writes to Richman to ask for assistance for the artist and sculptor Ruth Francken, specifically to see if Richman is able to invite her to America, under the auspices of the American ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts), which are in receipt of a fund from Ford.
Richman responds that the grant from Ford just expired, and that he is unable to help Francken. He also reports that the relationship of the ICA with Ford is under threat, as funding for arts programmes are currently under review at Ford.
A further letter offers family news and encloses a typescript poem titled The Day of Five Signs: an elegy for Eliot: 5 January 1965, with a manuscript note that presumably refers to a memorial service for T.S. Eliot: 'printed in the Program; but not to be read'.
