Description
This file contains 4 letters to Herbert Read from Rayner Heppenstall.
The letters contain family news, concerns for Read's health, and details of Heppenstall's career and financial troubles. In 1967 he left the BBC who he felt 'were bent on easing me out.' He writes to Read on one occasion to ask if he can use him as a referee for a Granada fellowship at Lancaster University.
In another letter of 1967 Heppenstall reflects on his relationship with Read: 'In my early manhood, you meant a great deal to me. In recent year, we have met or communicated hardly at all, which I have often thought wrong. If you are as ill as they say, I can only grieve, which I do, which I do, which I do. I hope they may be exaggerating.
