Description
This file contains 13 manuscript postcards and 6 signed typescript letters to Leonie Cohn (Mrs Paul Findlay) from Herbert and Margaret Read, as well as one letter from Herbert Read to Paul Findlay. The Reads helped Leonie Cohn to escape from anti-Semitic persecution in Italy in the 1930s, and on her arrival in Britain she was employed by them to look after their children for a while. She later became a distinguished radio producer. These letters are mainly personal, and concern arrangements to meet and Herbert Read's schedule when in London. They suggest that Read regularly stayed in the Findlays' residence on his London visits, and one letter is signed 'your artful lodger'. A few letters refer to projects at the BBC on which Read is working with Leonie Cohn.
