Herbert Read was President of the Friends of York Art Gallery Committee.
Correspondence includes letters to Herbert Read from Hans Hess, Curator of York Art Gallery; Eric James, Baron James of Rusholme; T. C. Benfield, Town Clerk and John Ingamells, Curator of York Art Gallery; discussing topics including Read being on a three-man jury to select paintings by York artists for an exhibition in Munster; a Friends of York Art Gallery welcome reception for faculty and students of the University of York and Read being invited to be a member of the York City Council’s Art Gallery Committee.
