This file contains 4 signed typescript letters, 1 carbon copy letter and 1 newspaper clipping relating to The Phoenix Trust.


2 signed typescript letters are to Herbert Read from Rupert Hart-Davis, Chairman of The Phoenix Trust, dated 14 Feb and 28 Feb 1963, 2ff. The letters discuss Read becoming a Trustee for The Trust in relation to funding for their writer’s awards. Attached to the first letter is a newspaper clipping from The Times, dated 7 Jan 1963, giving further information about the awards, 1f. Read notes his willingness to take on the position in a carbon copy letter dated 18 Feb 1963, 1f.


Also included in the file are 1 signed typescript letter to Herbert Read from M. Elizabeth Barber, General Secretary for The Society of Authors, dated 1 Aug 1963, confirming Read as the Society’s nominated Trustee of The Phoenix Trust, and 1 signed typescript letter to Read from George Astley, Secretary of The Phoenix Trust, dated 29 Oct 1964, accepting Read’s resignation as Nominated Trustee, 2ff.
