The most recently published items are dated 1864. The books listed here formed the nucleus of the Holden Library belonging to the diocese of Ripon


Modern pencil foliation. On f.7 there is a watermark '1836'. There is little or nothing written on many of the later folios. On the front pastedown there is the armourial bookplate of the Holden Library. The spine is of leather and the outer boards are covered with light brown embossed paper designed to resemble leather

Biography or history

The Holden Library was bequeathed to Ripon clergy by George Holden (1783-1865), a theological writer who graduated at Glasgow and became the incumbent at Maghull, Liverpool, 1811-1865
