Description

The most recently published items are dated 1837. On several of the later folios there is very little written


Modern pencil foliation. All pages have ruled lines. On f.2 there is a watermark '1816'. On the front pastedown there is the armourial bookplate of the Holden Library. The spine is of leather somewhat worn and the outer sides of the boards are marbled in a rubbed and faded greenish colour

Biography or history

The Holden Library was bequeathed to Ripon clergy by George Holden (1783-1865), a theological writer who graduated at Glasgow and became the incumbent at Maghull, Liverpool, 1811-1865

Arranged in two sequences alphabetically by author A-Z, the first sequence being by far the larger part of the work
