Comprises a brief account of the life of Mrs Lawrence, and of her inheritance of the Studley and Ripon property; her care for Fountains Abbey, which she always regarded as a national trust; her kindnesses to many people in Ripon and elsewhere; some political activities; a list of bequests and legacies, and a description of a tablet to her memory in Kirkby Fleatham church. At the beginning of the volume there is a manuscript index by Tuting. Also inserted at the front is a press cutting dated 1860, being an account of an annual treat given to the children of Aldfield and Studley by the Earl and Countess de Grey. At the end is inserted the following printed matter: (1) A genealogical memoir of the lords of Studley, by J.R. Walbran, 1841; (2) Observations on the necessity of clearing out the conventual church of Fountains, by J.R. Walbran, 1846; (3) A printed funeral card, dated 4 August, 1845, announcing the order to be observed in the funeral procession for Mrs Lawrence; (4) A facsimile of
the first charter of Fountains Abbey, with transcript and translation from the Latin
Modern pencil foliation. Folios 1-4 and 68-96 are blank. There is some contemporary pagination in ink. The binding is with quarter leather marbled boards
