Description

Autograph letter, begins 'Perhaps you w[oul]d like to know for a certainty that I am still in the land of the living.'

WMR describs his trip to Australia, encountering icebergs around the Cape, and needing to be re-vaccinated and quarantined in Sydney after smallpox broke out on the ship.

On the return journey he left his daughter Helen with her sister at Genoa and returned home troubled by gout, while the sisters visited San Remo, Florence, and Venice.

He has provided an announcement for the forthcoming publication of John Lucas Tupper's poems, which is to be published by Longmans.
