Description

Autograph letter, begins 'It is more interesting to me to read your opinions as minutely & vigorously set down'.

WMR discusses the difference between his own and JLT's ideological stance. WMR perceives himself as a latitudinarian supporting liberty, and JLT as supporting authority.

WMR considers a point from an earlier letter, that each author feels their own time is the worst. He compares Ruskin's idealisation of the 13th century against a detailed list of horrors from the same age found in [Wolfgang] Menzel's History of Germany.
