Description

Autograph letter, begins 'I reply at once, tho' I hardly know my own mind'.

WMR responds to questions about a new Professorship of Art, to be funded by a bequest left by Felix Slade. WMR writes that JLT has the qualities to succeed in the role, but he feels it may well go to an 'illustrious' writer or artist such as John Ruskin, or a 'swell amateur'.

JLT has written 'Hiatus' anonymously, and WMR discusses whether he should admit to being the author to raise his standing.
