Description
Cream museum exhibit card from the Department of Colour Chemistry, displaying annotated samples of dyed cottons.
The card is divided into two sections:
1. Cotton Lawn (6 samples) under a descriptive heading explaining the process of bleaching in lime boil, soda ash boil, chemic and sour, one wash between each process. Backfilled finish in white or pastel shades with direct dyes. Exported to Switzerland for embroidering. The six samples demonstrate the whites and pastel shades.
2. Cotton for Rubber Proofing (2 samples) under a descriptive heading explaining the process in which the grey is singed twice, bleached by circulation, lime boil, sour, 1st soda ash boil, chemic, 2nd soda ash boil, chemic and sour, one wash between each process. 'Starch and calender heavily, leaving slightly alkaline to withstand proofing'.
Samples are attached to apertures with tape.
