Description
Counted woolwork sample worked as a model for a kneeler or chair seat in Winchester Cathedral. The work is in red, blue, green and beige wool on canvas, depicting an all over geometric hexagon and square repeat design with example of finished edges. The work is incomplete, with only one quarter of the piece completed, as an example.
Based on pattern printed in Peter Quentel's 1527 'Musterbuch für Ornamente und Stickmuster' (Sample book for ornaments and embroidery designs). A facsimilie edition was published in 1882 under the title 'New Little Pattern Book'.
