Description

Embroidered sampler for a ration book case. Completed corner worked in cross stitch, guidelines embroidered in running stitch.


The geometric design is based on pattern printed in Peter Quentel's 1527 'Musterbuch für Ornamente und Stickmuster' (Sample book for ornaments and embroidery designs). A facsimilie edition was published in 1882 under the title 'New Little Pattern Book'.
