Description

Model for an embroidered bag. Part-worked with a repeating geometric design. Worked in coloured wools in cross stitch and tent stitch. The stitches are worked in different directions to create a patterned effect. An original Louisa Pesel label reads 'bag model Peter Quentel 1527 - 1529 Plate 6 1st design'.

The design is based on pattern printed in Peter Quentel's 1527 'Musterbuch für Ornamente und Stickmuster' (Sample book for ornaments and embroidery designs). A facsimilie edition was published in 1882 under the title 'New Little Pattern Book'.
