Description
Cream museum exhibit card from the Department of Colour Chemistry, displaying annotated samples of dyed union gaberdines (4) and union coverts (3) in greys and browns. The samples are shown with frayed edges revealing the colours of the threads.
Union Gabardines: Sample 1. cotton dyed in piece with sulphur dyes; wool cross-dyed with acid dyes (special process). Samples 2. and 3. dyed in one bath, or wool dyed first and then cotton. Sample 4. dyed in separate bath with direct dyes.
Union Coverts: Samples 5 - 7. woven from dyed yarns, one white and one coloured thread being twisted for the warp.
Samples are glued and taped to apertures.
