Description

Polychrome sampler by Frances Collier, Aged 10, worked in cross stitch and star stitch. It is hand stitched around the edge for framing and backed onto hardboard.


The sampler features two stags, dogs, trees, crowns, love hearts and other floral motifs in a symmetrical design, enclosed in a repeating floral border.

Embroidered text is worked in seven horizontal bands, which includes three bands worked in star stitch featuring the alphabet in uppercase. Bands four and five include the maker's name and age. The final two bands feature an inscription which reads: 'Remember thy Creator in the Days of thy Youth'.
