Description

Comprises transcriptions of a collection of 52 autograph letters from Miss Ellen Nussey to Mrs Annie Atkinson between 22 March 1893 and 4 October 1897, including 18 letters undated and a brief list of 4 newspaper cuttings relating to Ellen Nussey and the Bront?s extracted from the 'Guardian', the 'Yorkshire Post', the 'Yorkshire Evening Post', and (probably) the 'Bradford Observer'. The texts of the latter do not appear in the volume. Subjects of writing concern domestic trivia, mainly removals, illnesses, and servant troubles. No Bront? material is included.


Bound in boards covered with a light blue paper, partly faded and discoloured, with black lettering on the spine as follows: 'E. Nussey. - Letters to Mrs. Atkinson. Transcripts.'

Biography or history

Miss Ellen Nussey was a lifelong friend of Charlotte Bront?, who preserved the many letters she received from her.
