Biography or history
Dick Evans (1896-1916) was born in Middlesbrough. He volunteered in 1914 and served in the 9th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, in France. Dick was killed at the Battle of Albert during the Somme Offensive on 10 July 1916. Frank Purdy (1867-1947) served in the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment, signing up at the age of 18. He served again in WW1.
