Description
Reference materials and [draft] papers [some only fragments] of Zygmunt Bauman. Most likely used as research but some submitted to Zygmunt Bauman for review/comment.
Includes copies of articles by other authors, printouts of online articles, typescript drafts(some annotated), manuscript notes (often written on the reverse of other documents used for scrap paper ).
Mainly in English and Polish. Also includes materials relating to other series, e.g. Correspondence / Travel. [Where these exist they are highlighted in the description as well as being linked- please see related item].
Dates in titles are approximates and reflect when likely created or referenced. [This differs from date on research materials that may be older].
Duplicate draft TS papers are found throughtout this series as it is likely that Bauman re-visited these to write new articles or to present at conferences. These copies have been left in situe as they may represent amended versions and/or provide context.
For other research by Zygmunt Bauman, found elsewhere in this collection please see related items.
Provenance
Most of these papers were received in 9 seperate boxes (now referenced A-I).
System of arrangement
Contents have been been arranged together as per original box [now referenced Box A-I] that they were deposited in, with original order maintained across multiple archival boxes that they are now stored in (e.g stored in consecutive boxes).
This was a deliberate decision to maintain provenance and hopefully assist with the identification of many unattributed items within this series. Instead the contents of each (archival) box have been listed in detail. To compliment the rest of the collection (which is arranged chronologically) arrangement of the original boxes has been put in chronological order by the archivist.
With few exceptions, there is no obvious order to how these papers had been arranged within, other than loosely chronological.
