Materials for a dictionary of the French language collected and compiled by Paul E.A Barbier. Folders of loose leaf papers arranged in boxes A-Z. Manuscript notes on words with citation of sources.

Believed to be unpublished in its entirety, though previous note suggests some of it may have been used in composing the 31 parts of his "Miscellanea lexicographica", published in the Proceedings of the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society, Literary and Historical Section, 1925-50.

Biography or history

Paul E.A (Emile Auguste) Barbier was Professor of French Language and Literature at the University of Leeds, 1903-1938. In his role, he was responsible for/influenced the purchase of books in the University's Anglo-French Collection.

Provenance

Previous collection guide suggest that the collection was presented to the University Library by his son, Carl P. Barbier, in 1955, along with: MS. 125.
