Description
Autograph manuscript and typescript copy of Craig Raine's 'Elegy' [later entitled 'The Widower' and published in the 'London Review of Books ' on 7 May 1981], with an explanatory letter from Raine to Ted Hughes. Also a letter from Raine to Hughes commenting on an upcoming meeting [nd, with a note from Sotheby's dated 1983].
Biography or history
Craig Raine (3 December 1944 - ) is an English poet who helped found the literary magazine 'Areté'. He has been its editor since 1999. He has also been the book editor for 'New Review', editor of 'Quarto', and poetry editor at the 'New Statesman'. He was a fellow of New College, Oxford, from 1991 - 2010 and is now Emeritus Professor.
