Contains a letter from John Trotter Brockett to J.R. Rowntree Esq, Stockton [20 Apr 1818] discussing book purchases, a visit to Darlington, and asking Rowntree to source him a copy of 'Ode to Despair'.


Also includes newspaper clippings about John Trotter Brockett and Elizabeth Elstob, as well as a portrait of each.

Biography or history

John Trotter Brockett (1788 - 1842) was an antiquary, attorney and collector. He was a member of the Society of Antiquaries, a secretary of the Newcastle Literary and Philosophical Society, and one of the council of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle-on-Tyne.
