Description
This item is part of the second accrual to the collection. It contains documents relating to Downs' service in the army including his discharge certificate, record of service, transfer to the army reserve and release leave certificate. There are newspaper cuttings and mazagines on aspects of the Second World War.
Letters include one from Maria, Annie Laurie and Lena dated 12 Dec 1944, one from Docteur Jean Genot dated 14 Jan 1945, one to his father dated 11 Feb 1946 and one from Anny dated 7 Feb 1947.
The archives include Downs' notes for a speech and on his service record including a printed sheet.
There are records relating to thanksgiving reunions for the liberation of 's-Hertogenbosch town, Holland, in 1944. These date from 1984-2009 and include letters, newspaper articles, a service of thanksgiving and a booklet entitled 'Fotoreport: 's-Hertogenbosch 23-27 October 1985'.
The section includes cloth badges for the Loyal Suffolk Hussars and Downs' notes on his time with the Hussars.
