Description

Includes a printed copy of Gray's 'Luna est habitabilis' signed by the author; a page from a journal with manuscript notes by Gray on natural history and the weather [11-17 Apr 1763]. A contemporary manuscript with notes on plants; a manuscript note by J.H. Burn [post 1829], and a cutting from the 'Gentlemen's Magazine' detailing an auction of Gray memorabilia [1845].

Biography or history

Thomas Gray was an eighteenth-century poet and scholar. He is best remembered as the author of the poem 'Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard', published in 1751.
