Description

Consists of letters sent from relatives in connection with the search for photographs of past staff members of the Leeds School of Medicine, for the Centenary publication. The letters were sent to the Dean of the School, Professor J. K. Jamieson, who had placed an article in the Yorkshire Post requesting photographs.


Includes letters from various correspondents relating to photographs of the following individuals:

Robert Parr Oglesby, ?Haworth, the Bishops family, William and James Braithwaite, Edward Ward, Thomas Teale, R. Lawford Knaggs, John Hey, Dr Frederick Holmes, William Scott, Samuel Staniland, Samuel Smith, and others. The letters relating to photographs of John Hey also relate to obtaining photographs of portraits of other members of the Hey family, including William Hey (1736-1819), which were in possession of a descendent of Hey.

- a letter regarding a photograph of the following group of people: Charles Turner Thackrah, William Wildsmith, Samuel Smith, William Hall, Joseph Prince Garlick, William Price, Thomas Pridgin Teale, Joseph Waiblinger, William Hay [?Hey], Thomas Cope, William Hey, George Mountain, John Atkinson and Henry Denny. - a letter from W.H. Burrell, honorary curator of the Herbarium, University of Leeds, regarding information on Henry Denny. The letter is accompanied by a copy of an offprint of an article on Denny by Burrell, from 'Transactions of the Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists' Society' Vol XI Part IV, 1922-23. [19 Dec 1930]


- a letter from the honorary secretary of the Le Prince Memorial, regarding a portrait of Dr Hare Gisburn taken by Louis Le Prince, which was at the Leeds City Museum [20 Dec 1930]. Accompanied by a copy of a pamphlet with information about Le Prince.


- a letter from James Bacon & Sons, photographers of Leeds, offering to supply Jamieson with photographs they had taken of "medical men" [4 April 1930].
