Biography or history

Joseph Black (1728-1799) was professor of medicine and chemistry in the University of Edinburgh, 1766-1797. His lectures were not published until 1803, when an edition was brought out by John Robison, in order to prevent the unauthorised publication of notes taken by students. See vol.1: Preface.
