The first quire (title page, preface, table) was apparently set up after the body of the book was printed.

Bindings


Nineteenth-century binding of quarter brown goatskin over bevelled wooden boards. The spine has three raised bands and in the second panel is a paper lettering piece, slightly damaged, with writing in black ink manuscript: Ivo. Episcopus Charn[oth]ensii. Basel 1499. The top and bottom panels are blind-tooled with a design of stylised acorns, oak leaves and galls, as is the back where it overlaps onto the boards. There are the remains of two decorated metal clasps with the catch on the upper board. The clasps are preserved separately. A pencil note on the front free endpaper attibutes the binding to Cobden-Sanderson. Size: 225 x 162mm. Leaf size: 216 x 154mm.

Small black and white armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the verso of the front free endpaper. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
