Description
By Barbara Green and John McDowall.
Artists' book. Printings of the dust surrounding removed books.
""Gatherings" presents the index of their trace in dust of absent books. This collaborative project started with a common interest in books, the architecture of books and the material traces, evidence of place and time" -- information provided by John McDowall.
Barbara's own concern with architecture has led in her previous work to explore ideas around a 17th century farmhouse. Renovation generated 17th century and accidental dust book prints, proving inspiration for this work. My [John McDowall's] references include Marcel Duchamp's dust breeding for the "Large glass", with its seven sieves giving the number of pages in this book. -- information provided by John McDowall.
"Barbara drew in outline the base of rows and stacks of art books in her home, templates were cut, placed on a photocopier and sprinkled with the dust and shavings produced by the cutter of a perfect binding machine. The card shapes removed, the copies were then reversed and used to make a series of silkscreens" -- information provided by John McDowall.
