Description

Box 17 (part): folder 1 of 3 contains papers about John Moody, 1918-1930s. It includes Richard Thompson's biography of Moody, obituaries and family photographs including some of his brothers, Robert and Harry Moody.


Box 18: folders 2 and 3 contains John Moody's papers 1918-1930s. Includes material from his early years and training, West End career, and Robert Medley and Group Theatre material; Folders 1 and 2 of 3 folders of John's letters to Nell, 1931-1960.


Box 19: folder 3 of John's letters to Nell, 1931-1960; 3 folders of John's papers, 1935-1942 relating to relating to Guildford Rep, Old Vic, the Old Vic School in wartime, Adrian Cairns’ memoir.


Box 20: 3 folders of John's papers, 1942-1954 relating to CEMA, Old Vic Birmingham and Liverpool, the Arts Council and opera. Nell's copy of Max Frisch's 'Don Juan' or 'Love of Geometry' and letters regarding 'Don Juan'.


Box 21: 3 folders of John's papers, 1954-1970s relating to his time at Bristol Old Vic to Welsh National Opera; folder 1 of Nell's letters to John, 1937-1944.


Box 22: folders 2 and 3 of Nell's letters to John, 1937-1944; folders 1 and 2 of Nell's letters to John, 1945-1970.


Box 23: folder 3 of Nell's letters to John 1945-1970 and miscellaneous letters; material relating to the Moody's son William; Nell's opera singing training notebook which mentions her teacher, Alma Schadow. The notebook contains a programme for Paul Robeson's concert on 26th September 1958 at Colston Hall, Bristol; 2 folders of Paul and Maria Helwig’s lifelong correspondence with Nell.


Box 26: photographs, Liverpool repertory theatre programmes 1943-1944, Christmas card list.


Box 27: album containing photographs and newscuttings relating to the Moody's wedding and honeymoon in August 1937 and travel photographs.


Box 28 contains many diaries belonging to John and some of Nell's, 1936-1969. The sequence is not continuous.
