Description

Box of loose photographs and correspondence labelled, "Romany Collection, prints, photographs, etc."

Includes photographs by Dorothy Una Ratcliffe, Juliette de Bairacli Levy and James Kirkup with accompanying correspondence.

Also includes correspondence from Richard Hargreaves regarding photograph postcards of Fairs at Appleby.

Provenance

These were found in a seperate box alongside the Album BC MS Rom 1/4/1. These were catalogued by a student placement in 2011 and it is not clear if these were separated from the album at this time, before that or of if they were ever put into the album in the first place.

Outer label (poss from 2011) states "Romany Photographs 1192. Correspondence from the photo album Juliette De Baircli Levy, Richard Hargreaves, James Kirkup."

Some have accession references, (B-number) but some may have been part of 1192 [BC MS Rom1/4/1] as the contents are referenced as part of 1192 in the original Romany Catalogue (1962), - or not previously accessioned or catalogued.

System of arrangement

These have been arranged in chronological order according to either the date or estimated date. (This is because it was not clear if the 2011 handlist reflected original order and did not seem to have been a deliberate arrangement by the original creator).
