Autograph manuscript (96 pages) of Sigismond Neukomm's 'Stabat mater', Op. 38 for four-part choir (SATB) arranged into two choruses. The title page reads 'Stabat mater / composé par quatre voix / en deux choeurs [inserted later] / sans accompagnement / et dedié / à / Son Excellence Monsieur / le Comte de Palmella / Ministre-Secrétaire d'Etat / de Sa Majesté Tres Fidelle / par / son très humble et très obéissant / serviteur le Chevalier / Sigismond Neukomm.'The manuscript includes annotations by the composer that do not appear in the published edition. he work was published by Breitkopf & Härtel in 1823. The “Comte de Palmella” was Pedro de Sousa Holstein (1781-1850), a Portuguese statesman who had represented his country at the Congress of Vienna, which is probably where he first met the composer.
