Letters on Balkan affairs, mainly from M.E. Durham (1863-1944) to Sir Edward Boyle (1878-1945), together with 1 offprint of a lecture by M.E. Durham on Albania, given to the Royal Institution on 4 February 1941, and another of 'Man:a record of anthropological science', 45 (1945), nos.1-18, containing obituary notices of M.E. Durham. Kept with the material is a letter from Lord Boyle (Vice-Chancellor of Leeds University and son of Sir Edward Boyle) to Dennis Cox, the Librarian, summarising the correspondence and giving information about M.E. Durham.

Biography or history

Mary Edith Durham attended Bedford College and the Royal Academy of Arts. She exhibited at the Royal Academy and provided illustrations for the reptiles volume of the Cambridge Natural History. A Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, she was also a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, and published a number of books, mainly on the Balkans
