Description
This and Liddle/WW1/GS/1327/2 are a separate accrual received in March 2016.
Comprises two scrapbooks in which newspaper cuttings have been pasted. The first scrapbook contains reviews of Ratcliffe's book 'Idle Warriors' published in 1935. Inside the front cover of the scrapbook there are some loose cuttings, and a pamphlet and sheet of paper with quotations about 'Idle Warriors'. The second scrapbook contains many cuttings relating to Bertie Ratcliffe's service in the First World War and articles about his escape from Ingolstadt Castle, the German prisoner of war camp. It also holds newscuttings about Lord Brotherton, his donation to the university in 1927 to build a new library and the opening of the Brotherton Library in 1936. There are some cuttings about other members of the Brotherton family. Inside the front cover there is a letter from C. Sheppard to K. Sanne. The collection includes a copy of 'The Brotherton Collection' published in 1953.
