Description
This section is comprised of material relating to the service of Privates Phillips, Mendelson and Zabit, who fought during the First World War. It houses photographs of the soldiers and the transfer/discharge papers of Jack Zabit. In an accompanying Letter written to Liddle by a family member it states Zabit was part of the 1st Battalion Kings Liverpool Regt. who fought in the Battle of Mons, remaining on the Western Front for the entirety of the war, although his discharge papers suggest a transfer to the Eastern Front at some point. The letter goes on to suggest that Zabit was one of the first Jewish men to return to his home town of Leeds on leave after he was wounded in 1915. Mendelson served as a sniper in the West Yorkshire Regt.
