Biography or history
FINRRAGE, a campaigning organisation, had its origins at the 2nd International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women (Women’s Worlds Conference) held 17-21 April 1984 at the University of Groningen, NL. Speakers (Gena Corea, Jalna Hanmer, Renate Klein, Janice Raymond, Robyn Rowland) on the new reproductive technologies sparked so great an interest from those attending that a campaigning organisation, FINNRET (Feminist International Network of the New Reproductive Technologies) was established and it was agreed to hold a conference on this topic as soon as possible. following an emergency meeting in Vallinge, Sweden, 3-8 July 1985, the name of the organisation was changed to FINRRAGE (Feminist International Network of Resistance to Reproductive and Genetic Engineering). FINRRAGE enabled the establishment of national groups to undertake national information campaigns, regional and later international conferences. Tours and talks were arranged for visiting members of FINRRAGE. A number of
significant books and articles were published and a journal established with Pergamon Press. Information packets were sent to national contacts for distribution and national newsletters established several countries. In Germany, a feminist archive on reproductive and genetic engineering was established in Essen.
