Description
The paper watermark has a glove initialed PB surmounted by a small crown (a tracing of it is inserted on the front flyleaf [5]v).
'Registrum Honoris de Richmond' compiled by Roger Gale was printed in 1722. The source text for the printed edition was presumably Harley MS.3674 in the British Library (reference on the front flyleaf [1]v; see also Hamilton Thompson's letter).
Written in a legal hand.
A letter (dated 17 July 1925) from Alexander Hamilton Thompson, Professor of History at Leeds, to Miss Woodward about the manuscript is kept with it.
The contents concern land in North Yorkshire, being a collection of evidences taken mostly from known sources, such as the Domesday Book.
Purchased in 1926 with funds from the Wilfrid and Thomas Denison Lumb Memorial Fund.
Provenance
In the 19th century the manuscript belonged to James Raine of Durham (inscribed by him on the front flyleaf [5]v), and his son Chancellor James Raine of York. In 1899 Raine's library was sold, and the manuscript was acquired by John Tinkler, Vicar of Gamston in Nottinghamshire, who annotated the manuscript in pencil.
