Description

(Tape 2; Tape 45/Transcript). Brigadier; Green Howards & Indian Army; Victoria Cross; Military Cross; In action at the First Battle of Ypres and gives a vivid description of the Battle of Neuve-Chapelle and Aubers Ridge; Recalls the first gas attack and its effects and goes into great detail as to the circumstances in which he won his VC at Richebourg L'Avoue May 1915; Later, posted to Egypt where he was in action against the Senussi at Mersa Matruh; Moved on to Waziristan (1920-21) where he earned the MC.
