Description

(1896-) (Tape 39; Tape 137/Transcripts). Driver, Royal Field Artillery; Enlisted in Territorials in 1912 and in 1914, at the outbreak of war, were billeted at St James's Park Football Stadium; To France in 1915 mentioning Le Havre, Hazebrouck, Poperinge and Dickebush; Dec 1915 contracted pleurisy and describes, in detail, his medical treatment at Hospitals in St Omer and Etaples; Following convalesence, was at the Somme from start to finish seeing action at Thiepval and High Wood; Saw further action at Vimy Ridge, Bethune and Langemarck where he was gassed; Final Service on the Aisne in 1918.
