Biography or history

Thomas Beckwith (1731-1786) was a painter, genealogist and antiquary. He was born at Rothwell, the son of a solicitor. He was trained as a house-painter in Wakefield, and went on to set himself up as a painter in York. He produced portraits, drawings of antiquities, local churches, ruins etc. Beckwith amassed volumes of notes in his study of heraldry and pedigrees.
