Bindings
Early twentieth-century binding of full brown pigskin over bevelled wooden boards. The upper and lower covers are blind-tooled with a border of triple fillets. The spine has four raised bands with blind-tooled triple fillets to either side of each. Gold-tooled in the second panel are the words: Opera Dionysii Areopagitoe. Gold-tooled in the third panel: Parisiis Higman et Hopyl 1498. The the fourth panel is the Brotherton Collection library stamp in gold. Size: 280 x 215mm. Leaf size: 263 x 202mm.

Written in black ink manuscript on the recto of the leaf opposite the title page: Acheté pour la Bibliothèque du Château de La Plagne le 15 mars 1916. P. Lacave La Plagne - dép. This is the signature of Paul Lacave Laplagne (1881-1982).
Coloured armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
