In pencil manuscript at the bottom of the recto of the back free endpaper a date and price: 1/4/20. £4 3/4.
Bindings
Eighteenth-century quarter binding of mottled sheep and mottled paper over pasteboard. At the centre of the upper cover are the remains of a red circular library label. The spine has five slightly raised bands with gold fillets either side. In the second panel is a pared pale brown leather lettering piece on which are gold-tooled the words: Bossi De institven sapientia animo. In the fifth panel is a pared blue leather lettering piece gold-tooled with the words: Bononiæ 1495. The remaining panels are gold-tooled with a single fleuron. The leaf edges are coloured blue. Size: 209 x 153mm. Leaf size: 202 x 142mm.
Provenance
Small black and white armorial bookplate of Sir Edward Allen Brotherton on the front pastedown. The book was most likely acquired before 17 June 1929 when Brotherton was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield.
