[Collector announcement]; Francis Lobb, recorded by Stanley Ellis in St Ewe on the 29 March 1963; answers a selection of questions from the Dieth-Orton dialect survey Questionnaire [various Books]; discussion of left-handedness and the term ?clecky-handed [wife also contributes]; family farming; farm work with horses at the age of fourteen; farm size, acreage ploughed, beef cattle; butter and (cheddar) cheese making; the village population; local estate farms and cottages (many now sold off); thoughts on tenant farming [wife contributes]; farming methods and changes in the last ten to fifteen years; ploughing an acre a day with horses; corn cutting machinery; binding sheaves by hand; compares bullock prices; price of corn (per hundredweight); pig killing; price of wool per pound; lambing; the local weather. [Collector announcement]; James Jago, recorded in St Ewe on the 10 December 1958 by John Wright; talks about work on leaving school; the working day on a farm; jobs undertaken; changes in modern times (transport, tractors); farm oxen (yokes, teams); size of farm/fields where oxen worked; fondness for horses; describes horse breaking; shipwrecks and the wreck of The Palace; its restoration and new name of The Try Again; informant's working life on farms, and for the local Council; long/short-handled shovels; agricultural wages; farm labourers living in on the farm; labourers' food; offers of work, pay rise and leaving the farm.
