[Announcement]; Mr. R. M. Claughton, recorded in Askrigg; collector introduces Mr. Claughton, who goes on to describe the building of a dry stone wall - selection of stones, courses and terminology; talks of sheep marks, including also horn branding; registration of marks in a shepherd's book; sheep counting the old way; gathering and bringing in sheep; the bell-wether [leading sheep of a flock, on whose neck a bell is hung]; decline in shepherding and number of shepherds; survival of sheep in snow; training sheep to stay on the moors; ?hoofing sheep; names of sheep at different ages; describes the shearing of sheep.
