Mrs. Forward, recorded in Cwmavon; talks about her son; the dole and Depression in the late 1920s/early 1930s; family; life in the valley; working at a furnace shovelling coal during World War One; husband's Army service in Mesopotamia; the village name; husband's father and family; American connections through family emigrating; son's tattoos; life and health; local transport; houses in the village. [Tr. 7] [Part of this recording is duplicated on tape LAVC/SRE/A831r.]
Mr. Padfield, recorded in Crosskeys [undated]; describes the work undertaken on his garden (filling in to level, building steps and garage/workshop); also wiring the house for electricity. [Tr. 8] [This is the conclusion of an interview which starts on tape LAVC/SRE/A833r.]
