Charles Dudman, recorded in a pub in Hatherden; talks about a shepherding job on leaving school; ?locus beans in sheep feed; work as a garden boy at Clanville Lodge; humorous anecdote re. a visit to [?Great] Bedwyn; gamekeeping and pheasant feeds (past and present); [recording level drops - voices indistinct for five minutes]; [followed by part of a conversation, involving an unidentified male, female and ?son talking with John Wright about the local police, and the parishes of Penton Grafton and Penton Mewsey (both in Hampshire, near Andover)]. [Tr. 2]
Charles Dudman continues to talk about pheasants and pheasant shooting; (preparations for) the shooting season; the use of dogs; his father; changes in farming and the decline in the use of horses; changes in the cost of living; pig keeping; curing and drying bacon; warmed beer and gin; his grandfather and drinking; family Christmasses with his grandfather; Clanville Fete/Club; grandfather's agricultural labouring (piecework) on an estate; ploughing with horses (driving, no ploughboy to lead); [followed by part of a conversation between John Wright and an unidentified male and female, as for Track One; who talk of the cars owned by the female's father; collecting things; Babycham and champagne drinks.] [Tr. 3]
