Irvine Brooksbank, recorded in Thornton in May 1957; talks about the house in which he was born; working as a farm lad scaring birds; the farmer he worked for; local quarries and his father book keeping for other workers; Sunday School; Board School; Egypt [local placename] Chapel; residents/congregation in ?Kipping [?part of Thornton]; home bread making and wet yeast sold at the door (also skimmed milk); Mr. Brooksbank's siblings; unemployment and soup kitchens; quarries and quarrymen known as delves/delvers; describes various quarry jobs (e.g. stone dressers) and names for workers; quarries at Idle [?Bradford]; mother's child rearing; joining the Army in 1914.
