Description
Compilation of Survey of English Dialects fieldwork recordings (copies) for Yorkshire locations 6Y30-31, 33-34; Isle of Man 6aMan1-2; and Cheshire 7Ch1-2. The original recordings were made between 1951 and 1965. The date when this copy tape was made is not known.
[Announcement]; Haigh Howard, recorded at home in Holme; talks with his daughter and a friend about posset (beer and milk) drink taken on Christmas morning; playing a hymn on Christmas morning; making posset, and receiving it in people's houses at Christmas time; other drinks (whiskey/rum, mulled ale). [Tr. 10]
[Announcement]; the grandfather of Mrs. Jack Barber, recorded in Holmfirth, talks about the death of a donkey; [announcement]; [indistinct speech]; [announcement]; a mouse in porridge; [announcement]; contretemps on a farm; words for parts of a cow mistall and farm (milking) equipment. [Tr. 11]
