Description
Compilation of field recordings of traditional songs from the West Country(accompanied and unaccompanied, complete and fragments), a monologue and a children's calendar custom rhyme. The songs include wassails, one of which was recorded at the wassailing of an apple tree [gunfire and cheering can be heard]. Children of Lopen in Somerset sing a Punky Night [October] song.
The singers are Charlie Showers, Bill Mear, Mrs. Showers, the Curry Rivel Wassailers, Eric Tarr, the Carhampton Wassailers, Brenda Bearne, Mrs. Bearne, Henry Davey, Raymond Veerman and Arthur Chilcott.
